                                           Whirlpool
of India limited, washer unit in Puducherry was the first manufacturing venture
of the Whirlpool Corporation, USA, the world’s largest manufacturer of home
appliances in India. In 1987, the Puducherry unit was formed
as a joint venture with M/s Sundaram Clayton limited, a TVS group companies and
was named as TVS Whirlpool Limited. This unit is located on a 150 acre
sprawling area manufacturing both automatic and semi-automatic washing machine.
They produce 16lakhs washer a year. This unit is certified ISO 9001 facility by
UL. It has also been cleared for “S” mark certification from Japanese Quality
standards for Exports to Japan after the facility approval. 10%-15% of the
annual volume is being exported. In WOIL, washer unit has a total of 11
departments comprising of 236 permanent employees on the whole. Out of which 73
is management executives and rest 163 are production operators. The people
